She went on to complete residency training in Psychiatry to be better prepared to treat the psychological needs of her cancer patients. After years of experience as an attending psychiatrist at a major psychiatric facility in New Jersey, she opened a private psychiatry practice in New York City. She continued to practice Radiation Oncology, joining a nationally acclaimed multidisciplinary cancer group (NNJCA) of the Hackensack University Medical Center. In 2009, she decided to discontinue her oncology work to dedicate herself to her psychiatric practice on a full-time basis.
More recently, with an ever-increasing recognition of the significant impact of unaddressed weight problems on the emotional well-being of her patients, Dr. Mandell decided to pursue specialized training and ongoing education in the field of medicine dedicated to weight management and obesity care. She has recently become board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. With this additional expertise and credentialing, Dr. Mandell has expanded her medical practice to include bariatric/weight management services.
