In 1990, she joined the medical staff of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, where she was an attending physician, Vice Chairman of the Dept. of Radiation Oncology and a full professor of Radiation Oncology and Pediatrics.

She went on to complete residency training in Psychiatry to be better prepared to treat the psychological needs of her cancer patients. . After years of experience as an attending psychiatrist at a major psychiatric facility in New Jersey, she opened a private psychiatry practice in New York City. She continued to practice Radiation Oncology, joining a nationally acclaimed multidisciplinary cancer group (NNJCA) of the Hackensack University Medical Center. In 2009, she decided to discontinue her oncology work to dedicate herself to her psychiatric practice on a full-time basis.

With increasing recognition of the significant impact of unaddressed weight problems on the emotional wellbeing of her patients, Dr. Mandell decided to commit to specialized training and ongoing education in the field of medicine dedicated to weight management.
